Smaller agencies often have unique needs as they develop their organizations and programs, and strive to be sustainable and thrive. The Small Agency Program is targeted at 501(c)3 nonprofits in Greater Hartford with annual revenues under $300,000.

We welcome inquiries from all nonprofits. Preference will be given to organizations whose mission and work aligns with the Hartford Foundation's strategic priorities. Please review these prioroties prior to reaching out to us. Thank you!

NSP RESOURSES

  • Small Agency Grants enable small or all volunteer organizations with revenue under $300,000 to apply for project grants or general operating support grants.
     
    Project grants are for a period of up to a year and may be used to support programs or capacity building needs.  Small agencies may apply for project grants up to $7,500.

    General operating support grants offer up to $10,000 over two years if your organization has a strategic, annual, or business plan.  Plans must clearly articulate your organization's goals, objectives, targets, and who's responsible​​​.

  • Building on Success Program combines workshops for agency teams and individualized consultation to help strengthen small agencies' effectiveness and performance.

  • Discovery Sessions - A Discovery Session enables smaller or all-volunteer organizations to work with a skilled consultant to focus on one or two key areas that will help the organization move forward.

  • Nonprofit Workshops - NSP's workshops and webinars are designed to deepen learning and development in key areas of nonprofit management and leadership.  Topics include strategic planning, board performance, leadership, fundraising, financial management, human resources, technology, evaluation, legal issues, and more.  Workshops and webinars are free and available to nonprofits that serve the Hartford Foundation's 29-town region.

  • Catchafire - Catchafire connects skilled professional volunteers with nonprofits looking for assistance in areas such as marketing, web development, human resources, operations, strategy, and more.  The Foundation pays for a specified number of memberships for nonprofits, so please contact us if you're interested in learning more.
