Small or all volunteer nonprofit organizations often have unique needs as they develop their infrastructure, programs, and strive to be sustainable and thrive. NSPs offerings to small nonprofits target 501(c)3 nonprofits, or fiscally sponsored organizations, in Greater Hartford with annual revenues under $300,000.

We welcome inquiries from all nonprofits. Preference will be given to organizations whose mission and work aligns with the Hartford Foundation's strategic priorities.

NSP RESOURcES

  • Small Nonprofit General Operating Support Grants are designed for small or all volunteer organizations with annual revenues under $300,000 that have an established record of service to their communities and that meet the eligibility criteria of the Foundation.

    This opportunity offers up to $15,000 over a two-year period to support an organization's stability and institutional strengthening, as outlined in its organizational strategic plans and goals.  Funding can be used at the organization's discretion.

  • Small Nonprofit Technology Grants offer small organizations with revenue under $300,000 an opportunity to apply for up to $10,000 to implement one or two technology projects.  Most grants will not be awarded at the maximum. 

  • Discovery Sessions enable small or all-volunteer organizations to work with a skilled consultant to focus on one or two key areas that will help the organization move forward in its organizational strategic plans and goals.

  • NSP Nonprofit Workshops and Webinars  are designed to deepen learning and development in key areas of nonprofit management and leadership.  Topics include strategic planning, board performance, leadership, fundraising, financial management, human resources, technology, evaluation, legal issues, and more.  

  • Catchafire connects skilled professional volunteers with nonprofits looking for assistance in areas such as marketing, web development, human resources, operations, strategy, and more.  The Foundation pays for a specified number of memberships for nonprofits, so please contact us if you're interested in learning more.

  • Hartford Public Library Nonprofit Workshop Series - In partnership with the Hartford Foundation, Hartford Public Library offers free learning opportunities targeted at smaller nonprofits in areas such as board roles and responsibilities, strategic thinking, and fundraising.  Recordings of previous workshops may be found here.

  • Hartford Public Library Funding Information Network - The Hartford Public Library provides visitors with free public access to Candid's electronic databases and resources. At the Library, you can access the Foundation Directory Online, Grants to Individuals, and other resources to assist and strengthen your nonprofit organization.

    Representatives of nonprofit and grassroots organizations and other patrons are welcome to use the databases at the Hartford Public Library at any time during their open hours.

  • Candid supports nonprofits with information, resources, training, and data to find funding opportunities, determine which funders are most likely to support their work, and become more visible to donors.  Candid's free workshops for nonprofits may be found here.
